Facts about Bausch + Ströbel

Bausch+Ströbel is a machine manufacturer that produces special machines primarily for the pharmaceutical industry. The machines are used for cleaning, sterilizing, filling and labelling pharmaceutical products such as medicine bottles, ampoules, syringes, cartridges and injection vials.

Challenges

Bausch+Ströbel has been publishing its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) for years.

The next step in the sustainability strategy is to determine the product carbon footprint (PCF) of individual systems. To do this, the company was looking for a solution provider that could analyze complex systems and provide a transparent, scientific methodology.

As Bausch+Ströbel did not have the resources for extensive familiarization with the calculation methodology and the preparation of incomplete master data (e.g. parts lists in the ERP system), ERP and CAD data often had to be exported and merged again. It therefore became clear that a carbon accounting partner was needed to take over the data preparation and processing and enable uncomplicated collaboration.

In addition, a way was to be found to automatically determine the PCF for other plants at the touch of a button in the future.

Searching in vain for some time for a PCF solution for their complex systems
Improve master data quality (parts lists)
Manual, time-consuming and Excel-based quantification

TELUSIO provided the solution: just six weeks after the start of the project, the PCF results could be used – without any IT or sustainability resources of their own.

All relevant CO2 figures for articles, product groups, assemblies and materials can now be called up and analyzed at the touch of a button – as a data-based foundation for further developments in the development and design of new systems.

The PCF report can also be issued to customers and stakeholders as a convincing sustainability tool. Bausch+Ströbel received full transparency about the quantification method: The PCF determination was carried out in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol on an activity-based basis, whereby TELUSIO recorded the CO2 emissions from various activities and processes – based on extensive parts list and manufacturing data.

What characterizes the collaboration?

In addition to the uncomplicated cooperation, TELUSIO’s digitalization perspective is particularly convincing. TELUSIO presents a clear roadmap for the automation of PCF quantification so that the PCFs for all systems can be calculated automatically (and digitally) in the future.

Uncomplicated collaboration without the use of large (IT or sustainability) resources
PCF utilization of results within 6 weeks of project start
Overview and detailed CO2 emissions for every assembly, component and material with one click
´The comprehensible and clear path to automating PCF calculation for all our systems is very convincing. We look forward to working with TELUSIO on the further automation of this important topic.´
