Krones is aiming for climate neutrality by 2040 with at least a 90% emission reduction (SBTi requirement). Since around 80% of emissions arise in Scope 3 — especially Scope 3.1, purchased materials and goods — the greatest reduction potential lay there. Spend-based calculations were too imprecise, suppliers provided hardly any reliable primary data, and manual data collection was too laborious given the high purchasing volume.
