Nina Thalberg (Telusio) and other participants of the PCF experience exchange at Krones.
At the event on calculating the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), organised by the VDMA and held at Krones in Neutraubling, we had the opportunity to exchange views with numerous companies on questions of PCF calculation.
A central topic of the discussions and presentations was uncertainty regarding current standards and regulations for PCF calculation. This can lead to challenges in calculating emissions with regard to choosing the correct emission factors and the calculation methodology applied.
To act in compliance with the rules and thus determine a reliable and audit-proof PCF value, a calculation according to the rules of ISO 14067 and the GHG Protocol is recommended. More detailed information can be found here in our article.
In addition to uncertainty at regulatory and organisational level, the challenge of data completeness dominated the day.
Both missing primary data and poorly maintained master data present difficulties for most companies. The event made it clear that this problem exists across industries and often slows progress in precisely calculating the carbon footprint.
This is where pragmatic solutions such as the TELUSIO Engine are needed to take first steps towards calculation and fill data gaps based on scientific standards.
At TELUSIO, we are continuously working on closing data gaps and completing master data using algorithms. Our software solution also enables fast and verified calculation of the Product Carbon Footprint, suitable for everything from special machine building to series production.
